Couple Infinity Heart Tattoo

There is a certain level of permanence associated with tattoo. To celebrate your love with your romantic partner, a matching tattoo could be a great idea.

However, couple tattoos aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Some people consider these tattoos rather cheesy.

But, it is undeniably sweet when a tattoo gets something that reminds them of one another.

Getting a tattoo done together can also be considered to be a sign of your commitment to your significant other.

Something that looks inconspicuous and simple will be great. If the relationship eventually doesn’t work out, the coverup will be easy to do (but of course let’s hope that doesn’t need to happen).

What does the infinity symbol mean?

The infinity symbol has been around for many centuries. Though the heart is a recent addition – creating a new kind of modern symbolism – the infinity symbol holds quite a history. It has also been used in many other contexts.

In the sections below, I will be discussing the history of the infinity symbol and some of its usages. Keep reading to learn more about the infinity symbol.

History

The sideways figure eight has been around for many centuries. An example of this would be in the cross of Saint Boniface.

It appears wrapped around the bars of a Latin cross.

It also makes an appearance in the world of Mathematics. The man accredited with introducing this symbol to Mathematics in 1655 is John Wallis.

Why did John Wallis choose a symbol like this? There is really no accurate explanation. However, we can only speculate.

It is a variant form of the Roman number associated with 1,000 – which can also represent the idea of “many”. It is also a variant of the Greek letter omega – which is the last letter of the alphabet.

Leonhard Euler also used the symbol to denote “absolutus infinitus” – which directly translates as “absolute infinity”.

Though this symbol is no longer used in similar operations, it’s significance and purpose in those contexts has not been forgotten.

Usage

It had a long history in the world of Mathematics. However, that is not the only area in which the symbol was used.

The symbol has also been used in bookbinding. The symbol indicates that the leaves used for the book is acid-free paper and will be durable and long-lasting.

Modern Symbolism

The famous symbol also makes an appearance in modern mysticism. The symbol has also been identified to be a variation of the ouroboros – an ancient image of a snake devouring its own tail.

This strange behaviour of the snake was also associate with the idea of infinity.

Graphic Design

The area which has brought the infinity symbol to a majority of our knowledge has to be graphic design.

The symbol is widely used in a variety of mediums to indicate the idea of infinity or permanence.

It’s first emergence in the world of graphic design begins in the early 19th century where it was used to create a rainbow-colored flag that represented the neurodiversity movement.

It is also very common to see in the world of modern commerce. As a matter of fact, the 2022 FIFA World Cup features the symbol.

Infinity Heart Tattoo FAQs

Why should you get an infinity heart tattoo?

Infinity heart tattoos celebrate something that is common among all of us. It is love.

It is a great reminder to love yourself, love the people around you and to simply love life.

If these are values that you hold dear to your heart, then there is no doubt that this is a great tattoo to add to your repertoire of body art.

What style should my infinity heart tattoo be in?

The infinity heart tattoo doesn’t call for large, grand and intricate designs. The message it brings is already quite enough.

Simple colors – or adding names and numbers – will suffice.

Where should I place my infinity heart tattoo?

Due to its simplistic nature, the infinity heart tattoo will thrive in any part of the body.

Tattoos of this size is usually places on the wrist, ankle or collarbone.

Will it hurt?

  • Size & complexity of design
  • Tattoo placement
  • Pain tolerance
  • Experience

Pain intensity varies wildly between each person. What might hurt for you might not hurt at all for someone else.

So before you go get your tattoo, go over the following points.

Size & complexity of design

A major factor that dictates how bad your tattoo will hurt is how big it is and how complex the details are.

The reason for this is because bigger and more complex tattoos take much longer to finish. If you have a particularly big and complex design, it could take several sessions to complete, meaning more pain.

Now when you get a tattoo, your body will be in constant pain. The tattoo machine repeatedly pierces and injects ink into your skin, and you will feel a slightly painful scratching sensation. This is normal.

The body adjusts to this pain by releasing adrenaline and endorphins. During this rush, you’ll feel the pain start to numb out and you’ll feel much less stressed.

The thing is, the rush only lasts about 30 minutes.

Infinity heart tattoos are usually small. Or, relatively simple. In this case, you may not outlast the rush and the pain will be bearable. However, there are other factors that will affect the amount of pain you will experience.

Just remember to get a design that’s appropriate for your tolerance for pain. Too much pain can get in the way of both you and your artist.

  • Tattoo placement

Another factor that affects the intensity of pain you’ll experience is where you’ll place your tattoo.

People normally choose to have their infinity heart tattoos on places where they are highly-visible such as the wrists, ankles or collarbones.

These areas don’t have a lot of muscle or tissue that can cushion the needle. So these areas may be more painful compared to the arms or the legs.

If you’ve got a low pain tolerance, then you might have to ask the tattoo artist to take it easy on those areas.

For a comprehensive discussion on which body parts hurt most when getting tattooed, check out this article by Healthline on tattoo pain.

  • Pain tolerance

Some people have naturally low pain tolerances. This could be caused by a skin condition, thin skin, or recent emotional trauma. Pain tolerances vary from person to person, so it’s a good idea to figure out how well you fare before booking an appointment.

But if you’re already committed to getting your tattoo, here are a few actionable ways to mitigate the pain:

  • Get enough sleep. If you don’t get enough sleep before getting your tattoo, you’ll hinder your body’s natural healing process. (Important!)
  • Stay sober. If you drink before getting your tattoo, get ready for some pain. Alcohol is classified as a blood thinner. When your blood thins, it’s more prone to bleeding and bruising. (Important!)
  • Stay hydrated. Drink enough water before getting your tattoo. It’ll help your skin stay supple throughout the session. It’ll also help your tattoo heal faster after your session.
  • Moisturize. Hydrating your skin doesn’t just mean drinking plenty of water. You should also take the liberty of applying moisturizer to keep your skin nice and hydrated from the outside.
  • Take breaks. There will be moments in your tattoo session where the pain will just be too much to handle. This is normal. When this happens, feel free to ask your artist for a short break.
  • Experience

According to research, a person’s pain tolerance is directly affected by their experience with tattoos. This means that if you’ve had tattoos done in the past, you’ll likely feel less pain.

Conclusion

Though the infinity heart tattoo is rather simplistic kind of tattoo, they should still be part of your tattoo bucket list.

They could be considered one of the most meaningful tattoos a person could get. These tattoos celebrate our love for the people around us – as well as our love for ourselves.

They also represent people that we hold near and dear to our hearts. If you’re ready to celebrate love, family and friendship, then your next tattoo should be of an infinity heart.
